President's Message

Sustaining Caring Campus at Your School

Dear Caring Campus Community,

We are thrilled to announce a series of Caring Campus updates designed to amplify the impact of our work, including a new Caring Campus Network (CCN) website and Caring Campus Certification program coming soon. These enhancements will open new pathways for our Caring Campus colleges and universities to strengthen connections, find resources, improve implementation strategies, and create a nurturing environment for students.

At the beginning of June, our long-time partner, the California Community Colleges Classified Senate (4CS), unveiled the Caring Campus Institutionalization and Sustainability Guidebook. This guide will serve as a resource for community colleges to go beyond the initial implementation of Caring Campus by integrating the program’s principles and strategies into their college’s culture for long-term effectiveness.

The Caring Campus Institutionalization and Sustainability Guidebook will provide community colleges with the tools needed to embed Caring Campus principles into their institutional culture, ensuring lasting impact.

Below are a few quick tips for how to institutionalize and sustain Caring Campus at your institution.

1.     Engage Leadership: Secure clear commitment from top administrators to support Caring Campus and regularly communicate the program's value and successes to maintain leadership engagement.

2.     Form Dedicated Committees: Establish committees specifically for Caring Campus, incorporating diverse members from various departments. Develop a clear mission statement and guidelines to focus committee efforts.

3.     Recognize Classified Professionals: Regularly celebrate the contributions of Classified Professionals to boost morale and reinforce a culture of care.

4.     Ensure Continuous Communication: Make Caring Campus a standing agenda item in leadership and management meetings to maintain visibility and support.

5.     Leverage Resources: Identify and utilize funding sources, such as equity funds, to support Caring Campus activities. Provide ongoing training and resources to staff to sustain and grow the initiative.

Thank you, 4CS, for your ongoing partnership in our mission to prioritize success for every student. Additionally, we would like to thank the College Futures Foundation for its generous funding, which has enabled this impactful endeavor.
