President's Message

Strengthening Our Caring Campus Community with New Opportunities

Dear Caring Campus Community,

Caring Campus is essential for helping colleges and universities cultivate a culture of care that promotes persistence, retention, and success for all students. The higher education landscape continues to evolve and we are committed to the ongoing growth and adaptation of Caring Campus to ensure it aligns with the needs of today’s students.

One way we achieve this goal is by offering colleges and universities the opportunity to participate in a Caring Campus Refresh. These Refreshes are designed to provide institutions that completed Caring Campus several years ago with updated, concrete principles and strategies to help achieve their goals of student well-being and success. Over three focused sessions, Caring Campus Refreshes will help ensure all employees are aligned in their efforts to create the best possible environment for students.

Additionally, our Caring Campus Academy (CCA) provides new staff, faculty, and administrators with the opportunity to learn about Caring Campus principles and techniques. CCA facilitates a smooth transition for new hires into their institution’s Caring Campus culture by engaging them with the commitments their college has adopted. Our second CCA cohort will begin in September. Stay tuned for more information on how your school can participate in one of our upcoming CCA online sessions.

Our second Caring Campus Academy cohort will begin in September, ensuring all new hires are seamlessly integrated into their institution's existing Caring Campus culture.

Our Caring Campus Network website (CCN) is now live, providing members with resources and support to help them sustain and institutionalize Caring Campus at their college. The CCN website features an artifacts database showcasing real-world examples of successful implementation strategies from other Caring Campus institutions.

Additionally, the CCN website includes information about our new Caring Campus Certification. This program will formally recognize the efforts our colleges and universities have put into implementing Caring Campus. CCN members will be able to apply for certification starting August 2024, with results announced in January 2025.

We are confident these new offerings will play a pivotal role in enhancing our collective efforts toward student success. As we continue to expand our community, we will have some additional updates and events to share.

Ken Sherwood, our IEBC Chief Operating Officer, will deliver the closing keynote speech at the Virginia Community College System retreat at the beginning of August, focusing on the benefits of Caring Campus. If your school is interested in having an IEBC representative speak at an upcoming event, please contact ksherwood@iebcnow.org.

I will also be delivering the keynote speech for the Alamo Colleges District Convocation in mid-August - focusing the District and colleges engagement in going all-in with Caring Campus.

Dr. Stephanie Sutton, our newest Caring Campus Coach, brings over 30 years of experience in higher education and knowledge in student success initiatives to the IEBC team.

We would also like to welcome Dr. Stephanie Sutton to the IEBC team as our newest Caring Campus Coach. With over 30 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Sutton brings a wealth of knowledge in enrollment management and student success initiatives. Most recently, she served as the Vice President of Enrollment Management at Stark State College, one of our esteemed Caring Campuses.
