President's Message

Looking Ahead: A Transformative Year for Caring Campus

Dear Caring Campus Community,

As we reflect on this past year, the extraordinary strides made by Caring Campus community colleges and universities in fostering student persistence, retention, and success across the nation fill our hearts with joy. Your unwavering commitment to placing student connection at the center of your work is not only inspiring but has been transformational for so many students.

Looking to the year ahead, we are continuing to expand the ways that Caring Campus can impact the culture at your school, and have created a key program for you to showcase your commitment to student success. Our new Caring Campus certification program formally recognizes the resources and efforts a college or university has put into Caring Campus implementation and will serve as a mark of excellence in creating a student-centered culture. Many Caring Campus schools have already submitted their applications and we look forward to announcing the first certified institutions in April 2025. If your institution hasn’t yet applied, learn more on our certification website.

Certified institutions will also be honored at a special awards ceremony during our inaugural Caring Campus Conference, taking place from November 12-14, 2025 in San Diego. This event will be a gathering of collaboration, innovation, and inspiration – one you won’t want to miss! Save the date and visit our conference website or read our recent story for more details. Registration opens January 1, 2025.

Our next Caring Campus Academy (CCA) cohort launches in February, and we are excited to open the CCA to all faculty and staff members. By involving every college and university employee, we strengthen alignment and commitment to student success. Visit our CCA website for more information – registration for the February cohort is coming soon.

The Caring Campus Academy is now open to all college and university employees, strengthening alignment and commitment to student success.

Finally, I am proud to share a new book chapter that I recently co-authored with Elisabeth Barnett and Selena Cho from the Community College Research Center, and Kristin Cornelius from Delta College. Published by Wiley, our chapter entitled “Creating Caring Campuses: A Faculty‐Led Approach in New Directions for Community Colleges,” underscores how faculty behavioral commitments foster belonging and guide students toward success. You can read the abstract here.

To all the institutions, faculty, and staff who have championed Caring Campus values throughout 2024, thank you. From our family to yours, best wishes for a joyous holiday season!

Connect with us today to learn more about how we can help your campus continue to build and nurture a culture of care.

Sincerely,

Brad Phillips, Ph.D.
