One Week Away: Celebrating a National Culture of Care

Dear Caring Campus Community,

In just one week, staff, faculty, and administrators from across the nation will meet in San Diego to connect, collaborate, and celebrate student success at the inaugural Caring Campus Conference: Building a National Culture of Care.

Our full lineup of presenters is set, representing multiple states. Each will bring invaluable insights and experiences from their own Caring Campus journeys. We are also honored to welcome our keynote speakers, Dr. Vincent Tinto and Dr. Peter Felten, whose perspectives on student belonging and building a culture of connection will provide inspiration and guidance for us all.

In just one week, staff, faculty, and administrators from across the nation will meet in San Diego to connect, collaborate, and celebrate student success at the inaugural Caring Campus Conference.

We are also thrilled to invite all attendees to a special reception on the first night of the conference, November 12, for an evening of networking, inspiration, and meaningful conversation. Plus, surprise entertainment!

On November 14, we will close by recognizing outstanding campuses that exemplify the Caring Campus commitments, including this year’s Caring Campus Certified institutions, at an awards ceremony.

There’s still time to register and be part of this milestone event in Caring Campus history. Single-day passes are available for those unable to attend the full conference. I look forward to welcoming you all in San Diego very soon.

On October 23, I had the privilege of hosting a keynote panel alongside President Joianne Smith of Oakton College and Chancellor Rick Bateman of Bossier Parish Community College at the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) virtual conference. Our discussion explored how both colleges are cultivating student belonging and fostering caring environments that elevate student success.

Oakton College is a proud Caring Campus. President Joianne Smith and Bossier Parish Community College Chancellor Rick Bateman were panelists for a keynote discussion on Caring Campus at the NISOD virtual conference on Oct. 23.

The NISOD conference was opened by Dr. Linda Garcia, Executive Director of The Center for Community College Student Engagement (CCCSE). CCCSE’s latest report, “Essential Conditions for Community College Student Success: Maximizing Student Engagement by Fostering a Culture of Caring," underscores the power of care on student engagement, and showcases Caring Campus as a leading force in driving this vital work.

As we approach the holiday season, I want to extend my warmest wishes for a joyful Thanksgiving. May this time bring you moments of rest, gratitude, and connection with loved ones. I remain deeply thankful for every Caring Campus, and for the foundations and partners whose continued support helps ensure students across the country experience genuine cultures of care.

Thank you for your continued dedication to student success and Caring Campus. Connect with us today to learn more about how we can help your campus continue to build and nurture a culture of care.

Sincerely,

Brad Phillips, Ph.D.
