President's Message

Leading With Care and Supporting Students from Day One

Dear Caring Campus Community,

I hope your spring semester is off to a strong start, filled with meaningful moments that help foster welcoming, caring environments for students and for one another. As the term gets underway, I would like to share a few simple but powerful reminders to support your continued implementation of Caring Campus.

The beginning of the semester offers a critical opportunity to show students they matter. One of the easiest and most impactful ways staff and faculty can do this is by learning and using students’ names. For faculty, early assessments and intentional check-ins also send a clear message to students that they are seen, supported, and cared for.

Brazosport College builds connections with students early, helping them feel supported from day one.

Brazosport College in Texas provides an inspiring example of this work in action. While still in the early stages of implementation, Brazosport staff are already being more intentional about connecting with students in advising sessions, hallways, and common spaces, building connections early.

As you continue building cultures of care on your campuses, we offer a variety of resources and tools to support you in this work. I encourage you to become a Caring Campus Network member to take advantage of insightful webinars, an artifacts database, conference discounts, certification eligibility, speaking opportunities, and chances to be included in grant-funded studies. The deadline to renew your membership has been extended to March 15.

The Caring Campus Network and Caring Campus Academy offer resources and tools to support campuses in established cultures of care.

Our spring Caring Campus Academy (CCA) cohort also begins the week of April 13. This experience provides an opportunity to reconnect with Caring Campus principles, collaborate with colleagues from across the country, and further strengthen your campus culture of care. Registration is now open.

For those considering whether the CCA is the right investment for your institution, join us for an insightful webinar, “Building Student Belonging That Lasts: The Caring Campus Academy,” on Wednesday, March 4, from 11 a.m. to noon PST. This session will provide an overview of the CCA experience and how it supports long-term student success. Register today!

Thank you for your continued dedication to student success and Caring Campus. Connect with us today to learn more about how we can help your campus continue to build and nurture a culture of care.

Sincerely,

Brad Phillips, Ph.D.
