April President's Message

Strengthening Connections to Support Student Success

Dear Caring Campus Community,

As we enter a new season, I hope you have been able to enjoy some well-deserved time to relax during Spring Break and are returning renewed and energized for the impactful work ahead.

One important Caring Campus strategy for creating a strong and supportive campus environment is by improving cross-departmental awareness and communication. By fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of each department’s role, faculty and staff are better equipped to guide students through challenges and connect them to the right resources.

At Orange Coast College in California, staff and faculty have developed an internal directory of all employees to support identification and strengthen cross-departmental awareness.

Orange Coast College staff and faculty have strengthened their cross-departmental awareness, helping students find the support they need to succeed.

“I recently met with a student that only spoke Mandarin and needed help with an academic issue. Our directory allowed me to quickly find a fellow employee who spoke Mandarin and was able to translate the student’s needs. We were then able to help the student resolve their issue together, and also learn about each other’s unique expertise!”

Our spring Caring Campus Academy (CCA) cohort starts on April 13, and we look forward to welcoming higher education professionals as we explore proven strategies and principles that foster a caring environment and strengthen student outcomes. There’s still time to register to join us for a valuable refresher on Caring Campus implementation strategies!

Registration for the second annual Caring Campus Conference: Building a Legacy of Impact is now open! We look forward to welcoming professionals from across the country in Nashville, November 11-13, for another dynamic event focused on advancing student success.

We are also pleased to announce our three outstanding keynote speakers: Dr. Linda García, Executive Director of the Center for Community College Student Engagement and the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development; Dr. Davis Jenkins, Senior Research Scholar at the Community College Research Center; and, returning after delivering a standout keynote at our inaugural conference, Dr. Peter Felten, Assistant Provost for Teaching and Learning, Executive Director of the Center for Engaged Learning, and Professor of History at Elon University. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn from these nationally recognized leaders – secure your spot today!

We are now accepting presentation proposals for the second annual Caring Campus Conference: Building a Legacy of Impact.

One of the aspects that made our inaugural conference such a success was the opportunity to learn directly from colleagues. We are now accepting presentation proposals and encourage submissions that highlight innovative strategies, collaborative problem-solving, and creative Caring Campus practices you have implemented on your campus. Submit your presentation proposal by Friday, October 9.

Thank you for your continued dedication to student success and Caring Campus. Connect with us today to learn more about how we can help your campus continue to build and nurture a culture of care.

Sincerely,
