Dr. Jamillah Moore

Dr. Jamillah Moore is an accomplished higher education executive, scholar-practitioner, author, and advocate with more than two decades of leadership experience spanning higher education, public policy, and government. She currently serves as Vice President for Student Affairs at San Francisco State University.

Throughout her career, Dr. Moore has held senior executive positions across California higher education, including President of Cañada College, Chancellor of the Ventura County Community College District, President of Los Angeles City College, Interim Superintendent/President of Compton Community College, and Senior Vice Chancellor for Governmental and External Relations for the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. She also served on the California Student Aid Commission, including as Vice Chair from 2019 to 2021.

An author and thought leader, Dr. Moore’s work explores educational equity, student access and success, public policy, and transformational leadership. She is the author of Race and College Admission: A Case for Affirmative Action (McFarland, 2025) and a contributing author to From Insight to Impact: Stories of Transformational Leadership from 623 Strong (STAR Scholars Press, 2026). Her chapter, “Leading with Purpose: A Journey of Resilience, Equity, and Transformative Leadership,” reflects on the experiences and principles that have shaped her leadership journey.

Dr. Moore earned her doctorate in International and Multicultural Education from the University of San Francisco and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from California State University, Sacramento.
