Linda Watkins
Caring Campus Coach
Dr. Linda Watkins retired as a President with the San Jacinto College District in Houston, Texas. Prior to being a President, Dr. Watkins served in various roles, including Vice President of Instruction, Vice President of Student Support Services, Dean, Department Chair, and faculty. She has taught at the public school, community college, and university levels, receiving a number of recognitions for excellence. Since retirement in 2008, Watkins has continued to serve as an Achieving the Dream Leadership Coach, working with colleges in Illinois, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington and Texas. She also works with academic planning and leadership development as an independent consultant. Currently, she is a coach working with the Texas Success Center’s Texas Pathways Program, as well as with Achieving the Dream.
Throughout her many roles in community colleges, Dr. Watkins has demonstrated skills in guiding colleges in improving outcomes for students, especially as related to equitable student success leading to high wage careers. Her ability to work with diverse stakeholders, her facilitation/communication skills, and her belief in “servant leadership” have provided a foundation for her success as an educational leader. She has dedicated her career to strengthening communities through education, one student at a time.
Dr. Watkins earned a BA from the University of Texas, Arlington, and a MA and EdD from Texas A&M Commerce.
