Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) President Dr. Jason Morrison often calls TVCC “a home of champions,” reflecting its excellence in academics, athletics, and student life. Now, TVCC is taking this championship spirit to the next level by embracing Caring Campus.
Morrison first implemented Caring Campus at Southern Arkansas University Tech, where he served as chancellor for six years. After moving on to TVCC, he sought to bring Caring Campus to his new institution. Thanks to an ECMC Foundation grant supporting rural colleges, TVCC began its Caring Campus journey.
“Caring Campus is a natural fit for us,” Morrison said. “It builds on our commitment to student success by emphasizing the basics – respect, care, and helping individuals achieve their goals. We’re proud of our successes, but we’re also ready to tackle areas where we can grow and make an even greater impact.”
TVCC serves five counties in southeastern Texas through its five campuses. Caring Campus will bring staff from across these locations together for three coaching sessions, ensuring every campus is involved in creating a unified, student-centered culture.
“I have a quote I often tell people, ‘In difficult times, culture defeats intellect,’” Morrison said. “A strong culture is what sustains us during any hardship. Our goal is for Caring Campus to become the foundation of our culture, guiding us in supporting both our students and our colleagues in achieving success.”
As a rural institution, TVCC faces challenges like resource constraints and the vital role of supporting first-generation, low-income students. With the help of Caring Campus, TVCC is deeply committed to making a transformative impact on both students and the communities it serves.
